Untamed Nature Crafts is a project that encourages people to reconnect with nature through hands on creative activities. I developed a kit based system that makes it easy to engage with natural materials in an accessible way, with all tools and materials included including pre-drilled wood pieces, so that even someone living in an apartment building can build it in their home. The goal was to reduce barriers to outdoor interaction and support mental wellbeing through creative practice. I designed the full experience, including branding, packaging, and instructional materials, to feel inviting and easy to use while promoting a more direct relationship with nature.
Brand Identity & Assets
The Untamed identity system was developed to ensure flexibility and consistency across different applications. I created multiple logo variations to maintain clarity at multiple scales,as well as to support varied backgrounds and production needs. I built a supporting visual system using illustrated assets and hand drawn elements to reinforce the tactile, nature focused direction of the brand. The colour palette was structured around three core tones with an expanded range for flexibility. Defined keywords for brand identity and tone of voice to guide consistent application.
Decorative Typeface - UNTAMED
Untamed is a custom typeface created for my thesis project to reflect a hands on and experimental approach to nature based crafts. Each letterform was painted by hand, then digitized and refined using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Glyphs. The rough brush strokes and textured forms communicate energy and unpredictability. I designed it to feel expressive while remaining legible. This typeface supports the overall identity of the project and reinforces its focus on creativity and physical making.
Packaging Considerations
I focused on creating packaging that is both sustainable and practical for production and shipping. The box uses only black soy based ink to reduce environmental impact and simplify printing. Its structure is designed to be used across all kits, making it more cost effective and consistent as the brand grows. The 9” x 7” size supports more efficient shipping and storage. Materials include unbleached, sustainably sourced cardboard and paper stuffing that is easily shaped, recyclable, and compostable.
Kit Instructional Guide
I designed a double-sided instructional guide for the Native Bird Habitat Builder Kit, Eastern Bluebird edition, to support clear assembly and deeper engagement with the species. The front side presents an exploded view, completed outcome, and labelled components, all illustrated in Procreate to maintain a handmade visual quality. I included species information to connect the activity to ecological context. The sheet is printed on plantable seed paper using soy-based ink in grayscale to support sustainability. The reverse side provides step-by-step illustrated assembly instructions, with QR codes on both sides linking to a video tutorial and additional online content.
Social Media
For the Untamed social media page, I designed a series of posts and carousels to introduce the kit system and make nature-based making feel approachable. I structured the content to move from what’s inside the kit, to what the user will do, to why it matters, using simple messaging supported by tactile, hand-drawn visuals and layered layouts. The posts are designed to reduce intimidation around outdoor activity while clearly communicating materials, process, and environmental impact.
Untamed Merch
I developed a set of Untamed merchandise mockups to extend the brand identity into physical products while maintaining its focus on craft, nature, and process. The tote bag is made using hemp with algae-based ink, and the design keeps a hand made quality to reflect the brand’s emphasis on getting messy and working with natural materials. The t-shirt uses hemp fabric with water-based titanium dioxide white ink, featuring the primary logo on the front and a bark texture graphic on the back with “We Are Nature” subtly integrated to reinforce connection to the natural environment. The water bottle and hat use full-colour printing for durability and long-term use, supporting the idea of lasting, functional branded objects.
